10 Jul / 2025Australian test stats : Partnerships, high and low scores

A stats analysis on how Australian test batsmen have performed over the years. Here below there is data from their Pakistan tour in Oct 1998.

Table 1- Their success rate year wise featuring margin of wins and lead factor

Table 2- This table below features percentile of 40+runs opening stand /consecutive   yearwise.  This along with how Top 5 batsmen scores of 35+ and low scores (under -10)

Interestingly since David Warner retired from Test cricket, Australia have won 10 out of their 14 Tests!. However their opening stand avg has fallen drastically at 21.70 runs/wkt!.

In this period only twice 50+partnerships was posted by their openers(5 pairs featuring Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Sam Konstas, Travis Head and Nathan McSweeney), and in those 27 inns they batted eight times they could not get past 10 run. As a team only four times they went past 400 score in their 1st inns, and eight times dismissed inside 300 runs.

Table 3- Australia’s Test partnership against each test team since Oct 1998.
