All pitch talk has distracted all of how Indian batsmen have performed at home!.
Although India is winning or not losing home series in recent times, but their overall batting has gone worse!.
Below table represents data from 12 Tests India played at home since Jan 2021 ( Eng, NZ, SL & Aus(3 tests). Then compare it with 12 Tests played away from home in same period(1 in Aus, 1 v NZ in Eng, 5 v England , 3 in South Africa , 2 in Bangladesh)
The most startling stats in below table is “C 35” , consecutive scores of 35 runs!. Only 11 back to back 35s scored by India, which is surprising considering amount of 50s were scored. As none were regularly scoring consistently, with only Rishabh Pant had 33% consistency of >35 runs. Overall India only scored 7 centuries + 25 x 50s
This was not the case when they were playing away from home. They had 14 back to back 35s, 8 centuries, 34 x 50s!.
When Pant is fully fit to play Test cricket, perhaps he could be included in playing XI purely as a batsman?.
Below are few stats table reflecting how Indian batsmen have played at home and away from home. This is followed by batting partnerships in ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The last gfx displays recent batting partnerships at home against England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka
