I am following how runs are scored in all formats. By this I mean scoring shots over each phase, in bat order, partnerships, 1st/2nd bat, setting/chasing targets, etc.
Before that would like to look at trends of each team over last few years(since 2011). This post will only look at team’s point of view and not players.
Starting with Test matches. Here is a summary of how teams have fared in last 4 years. Before this year ends, there are at least 18 more Tests to be played.
Analysis
The average runs/wkts since 2011 has been quite good @33.16 runs/wkt.
And these wickets come in every 62.90 balls(average)considering the run rate is about 3.16 /over.
This is due to scoring shots, which is hovering around 25/100balls, complimented by 6 boundary/100 balls. Although both these indicators needs to be improved, scoring shots should be touching 30s. At same time not many big scores(>400) by teams, only 23 in 39 Tests with another 18 Tests to go. With run rate on the increase, one wonders whether teams will be inclined to post big total!.

Batting synopsis: South Africa is by far the best Test side since 2011. In this period(2011-14) they only had 5 loss (3 against Australia, 1each against Pak/SL)Apart from this blemish, they have been consistently performing with the bat. Every second Test they score big, and certain century in every Test!. With 56.66% of Test wins they would be great Test force.

Table 2
- List of wickets is distributed in % of dismissals(primary). I believe a LBW dismissal suggests the accuracy of a bowler. And in last 4years 16.77% of batsmen were dismissed in this manner. Fascinatingly teams from Asia have picked 21.21%, with Pakistan having the highest L B W dismissals.
- Low score dismissals: In a Test match on average at least 4 to 5 batsman get out less than 10 runs/inning!.
Interestingly both South Africa and Zimbabwe have the highest % of low score dismissals.ie- bowlers from these 2 countries have been consistently dismissing batsmen for low scores.
