Like batsmen bowlers also work in partnerships. They are supposed to complement each other, and while doing that, sometimes they need to constrain themselves from bowling differently. If someone has maintained great accuracy and is constantly beating the bat and creating opportunity to pick wickets, than bowler from other end need to maintain the ongoing run-rate, so that batting side cannot score freely and get away from pressured situation.

 

Here is a quick look at how bowlers from both teams performed when run rate was

a-   Below 3 runs

b-   Above 3 runs

There are couple of fascinating findings in here.

–       For England Jordon was most economical when Team RR was less than 3. He maintained 100.00% effectiveness unlike any English bowlers.

–       For India, Ishant, Shami & Aaron were most economical when Team RR was less than 3. They maintained 100.00 below 3.00. And surprisingly Ashwin never came into bowl when Team RR was below 3!!.

This being a 5 Test series there were higher % of spells bowled by bowlers from both teams.

As I said in my previous post(http://allthatcricket.com/?p=7196)6 bowlers bowled more than 100 overs and out of which four 150 mark.

For fast bowler, there is a usual cluster of wkts in first two spells, and after they become less effective till the next new ball.

Length of each spell is important for certain bowlers, some prefer bowling shorter spells, and some are effective bowling longer spells.

 

For England in this series.

Anderson was effective in his first 2 spells of an innings, than in 4th spell his eco rate + st.rate become very effective.

Broad and Moeen in their 2nd and 3rd spell. Stokes in his 5th, Plunkett after his 1st spell. Jordan & Woakes less effective after first.

 

For India

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar maintained his effectiveness in 1st, 2nd, 4th spell, but he had to bowl too many spells like other Indians.

Aaron very effective in first spell but expensive. Ishant Sharma effective in 3rd and 4th spell but he too was expensive. Shami misused the newball as he was very expensive in his 1st spell, maybe he should concentrate on swing/swing rather than pace.

Jadeja bowled well, and was effective in 2nd spells. Ashwin has the longest first spell.
