India Australia 3 match short series got over with a blink of an eye.
It was a run fest contest with no close result(post WC this has been a pattern for all teams). By winning the last two games India won the series 2-1. This was after losing the first badly – by 10 wickets and 12.2 overs to spare.
As both teams plundered runs it was no surprise to see balance stats – or one can say a marginal differences between teams.
Both teams lost 19 wickets each, and had marginal difference in balls faced/ runs scored. Hence their run rate was very similar, India @6.03 and Australia @6.21. There were also other indicators that were similar or marginal (see table below).
India | Batting Stats | Australia |
2 | Won | 1 |
884 | Runs | 848 |
879 | Balls faced | 822 |
19 | Wkts | 19 |
98 | Boundaries(4s,6s) | 92 |
15 | Sixes | 10 |
4 | Maidens | 3 |
22 | C 4 | 16 |
37 | C 6+ | 44 |
55 | L 4 | 47 |
75 | 6+ | 76 |
19 | 10+ | 19 |
1 | 15+ | 3 |
11 | Consecutive boundaries | 9 |
66 | 3 Consecutive scoring shots | 100 |
66 | 3 consecutive dot balls | 68 |
0 | No ball | 0 |
17 | Wide | 24 |
60 | Spells | 57 |
9 | wkt in 1st over of New Spell | 6 |
However there was one indicator made a difference. The scoring shots, especially the lesser ones. (1s, 2s, 3s) has a gap.
India scoring rate in singles = 40/100 balls
Australia scoring rate in singles = 36/100 balls
India scoring rate in lesser scoring shots were = 44.25
Australia scoring rate in lesser scoring shots were = 41.66
Due to this their overall scoring rate had some gap
India scoring rate was 55.40/100 balls
Australia scoring rate was 52.86/100 balls
India | Batting Scoring rate | Australia |
487 | Scoring shots | 434 |
351 | Singles | 297 |
389 | Lesser scoring shots | 342 |
Although both teams picked 19 wickets each, it was Indian bowlers who caused few collapses in Australian batting. It can also suggested irresponsible batting by Australians. There were 5 instances where India picked 2 wickets in an over that dented their progress 2nd and 3rd ODIs
This comes as no surprise as India has been dominating Australia post WC 2015!.
