30 May / 2024A look back at T20WC2022-Bowling Grid, analysis of line/length

In this post we look at line/length of bowler in last T20WC.

Here I have used two indices (R/O and St.Rate) to measure accuracy/effectiveness of bowlers in each cell of bowling grid.

A grid bascially is a combination of line and length, so when a bowlers bowls an off-stump line, you need to know what was the length of that ball and vice versa.

Re Line – The basic line of a bowler is three stumps , off-middle and leg . From here we can add few more to measure the accuracy,i.e outside off, outside leg, mid-leg, wide outside off and wide outside leg.

Re Length: There would about 8 to 10 length one can bowl. From knee height full toss to very short length. Here one can add overhead beamer or bouncers as well.

To create a grid we need to have line of the ball as columns and length of ball as rows.

Once you combined them uniformily you get a grid with each cell representing line+length of a ball bowled by a bowler.

Below is bowling analysis of teams that played in Super 12- T20WC

The analysis is sum of all bowlers for each team.

The calculation is R/O x St.Rate = Low Eco Rate x Low Strike Rate.  The lesser the average the better the bowling. However zero in this analysis does not suggests better bowling, it means one indicator( St.rate) is missing and no wicket had fallen in this cell!.
