West Indies v/s Sri Lanka –
In last 10 years Sri Lankans have won 60.71% against West Indies in all format and everywhere. West Indies manage to win only 21.42% of them, and if one has to sum up drawn games and non-result games, than Sri Lanka have not lost 78.57% of them.
Now West Indies are in Sri Lanka where they have won only twice(all format) in last 10 years and trying to save face by winning at least one series of remaining 2 LOI(ODIs, & 2T20I)series.
They are led by a young leader Jason Holder(second youngest to lead a West Indies team) and for West Indies sake one only hopes that he does not end up like Darren Sammy, confined to one format only.
He too like Sammy bats down the order, and has good leadership skills and better bowling skills. One feels age and skill should not be an issue with these two cricketer to be part of a Test match. They both are selfless cricketer and as cricketers they possess great decision-making skills.
One feels they should bat up the order to hold the batting spine of West Indies. There are others like Russell, Ramdin who can hold the fort lower down the order helping the tail to wag. The bottle-neck for them has been the top order, starting from openers till No.6 (1-6) and it needs to be arrested immediately.
One also hopes that Sammy can be convinced to play Test and ODIs games. He is one of the most valuable cricketer West Indies have produced in recent times. He can be a great aid to Holder. Jason is someone who can be a genuine all-rounder, the one West Indies never had since Sir Gary Sobers retired.
He has all the making of a champion all-rounder. At 23 one might feel – he is too young to lead a West Indies, comprising players from various small nations(island) but his on-field/off-field behavior, under all situation reflects maturity.
Here is a small table of their performance – I have divided their last 10-years (Jan 2005-2015) performance into two parts combining all format.
I would like to reflect on couple of interesting facts here. The important one of them is, a 3% rise in success rate if you compare two tables!.
The second interesting fact is – No. of players making their debut since Jan 01, 2005- 91 made their Int debut (out of 102 cricketers who represented West Indies).
This year(2015)from those 91 debutants – 34.31% are playing at least one format. And this period also saw as many as 11 different players captaining West Indies cricket.
Table 1- From 2005/06 to Oct 2009.

Here not trying to use data to flourish and give false hope to West Indies fans, but I genuinely believe if they select right players they once again become a force to reckon, and by appointing Holder as their leader they are on right path. It does not matter how many new faces are given opportunity, nothing matters as long as they are winning.
The term West Indies is used by all European nations to describe their own acquired territories/islands, but one feels the cricket team should be spelled as
Westindies!.
Here is an overall graphic showing their success in all format since 2009/10.
