IPL 6
After 74 games the average runs scored by teams batting first has reached 155.88. In my last post,(end of 25th game), the average was 149.
Now in those 74 games, 38(51.35%) chased successfully. And, so far 44 times (59.46%) teams were asked to chase more than 150, and in that 16 times(16/44= 36.36%) teams were successful in chasing > 150 target.
Here is a trend of how scoring big(>150) while batting first became easy for teams, and at the same time, increasingly difficult to chase those big targets.
IPL VI (2013) | Avg 1st bat score | Target >150 score | Chased successfully(>150) |
End of 15th game | 147 | 6(40.00%) | 2(33.33%) |
End of 30th game | 150 | 16(53.33%) | 7(43.75%) |
End of 45th game | 156 | 27(60.00%) | 11(40.74%) |
End of 60th game | 155 | 35(58.33%) | 14(40.00%) |
End of 74th game | 156 | 44(59.46&) | 16(36.36%) |
Money…ball?!.
Dravid called his team Rajasthan Royal as Moneyball budget team, but did Oakland A’s had any of its players involved in betting scandal, or was Billy Beane smart enough to hide/do away without those players. I doubt it. Baseball is much matured game, and Oakland’s A didn’t have the luxary of what RR have, in terms of five-star hotel treatment and salary to non-Int players per season, compare to Oakland’s A, who picked more elderly players with exceptional set of skills, than younger players or rookies. That was the hallmark of Billy.
I believe RR from beginning(in 2008, were the only team to have the maximum non-International players in playing XI=7) had the policy of picking less experienced and younger players, who were aided by few Int experienced players(most had star value), who had specific role to play in the playing XI.
Chasing in IPL
– Chennai have won 6 out of 9 games while batting second
& chasing successfully > 150: – 3 times
– Mumbai won 3 out of 8 games while batting second
& chasing successfully > 150: – 2 times
– Rajasthan Royals won 7 out of 9 games while batting second
& chasing successfully > 150: – 3 times
Last over finish = 45 games (all targets and all result) got over in last over
Teams involved Both ways (batting or bowling)
RR involved = 9(first bat/win =2 , second bat/win =5)
CSK involved = 11 times (first bat/win= 6 , second bat/win =4)
MI involved = 10 times ( first bat/win= 5, second bat/win =2)
