Today after a gap of 109 days, a one-day (50-over)match will be played. A tri-series in West Indies (June 3-26, 2016).
Its been 109 days(almost 4 months) since last One Day International was played( Feb 14,2016). In recent times this is the longest gap for this format. During this gap there were at least 70 or more T20 International played, and almost 100 plus domestic T20 games(including IPL).
Here is this year’s ODI statistical performance.
So far the series of India in Australia(Jan, 2016) has been the highlight of this year. A run festival that produced 3159 Runs in 5 games(10 Inns) with scoring rate of 56.4/100 balls, and frequency of 1.77 balls per scoring shot. The batting average of both teams was 51 with R/O at 6.4/over. On average 168 scoring shots per innings, featuring 31 boundaries!.
Today when South Africa take on host West Indies we would see two teams with contrasting batting style. The Horizontal and the Vertical style of batting.
Of course the host West Indies have most of them playing the vertical bat shot. South Africa on the other hand play the vertical pretty well, but most times prefer the Horizontal shots.
Below are couple of links to batting skills.
2016... so far a batting paradise
Below are two tables. Top one featuring runs scored in each batting position. Not surprisingly the top 3 batsmen had major contribution in scoring runs. They also scored the maximum centuries (16) out of 21.The second table features runs scored in partnerships. Here too the top three wickets produced maximum runs, hence were involved in most(19) 100 plus partnerships.
