Amidst the furor of fast short bowling on bouncy surface…….Nathan Lyon manage to pick 17 wickets in 2Tests.
Historically he is 9th spinner to pick the maximum Test wickets against India. In 8 Tests he has picked 39 wickets, he needs 14 to surpass the Australian record of a spinner picking most wickets against India, currently its held by Richie Benaud(52 in 8 Tests).
However for me it is not the Aussie record, or record against India that got me exited…but a “spinner” on a surface which is extremely conducive to fast bowling, where they picked 63.23% of total wickets(68) that fell for both teams. Nathan alone manage to pick 25.00% of total wickets with his off-spin!
Before this series he manage only 3 wickets in 2Tests against Pakistan in UAE.
Here is spell wise performance in the current Border Gavaskar series. The stats below is sum of overs bowled in each spell of 4 Inns. His first two spells were very ordinary, but he started to be effective from the third spell, which fetched him maximum wickets, and these spells usually came around the 3rd phase of Indian inning(after 30th over).
