Semi-finals : Eng v/s SA
Bad move by South Africa to open with spin. ODI history shows in win situation, only thrice a spinner picked 4 or more wkts –
Although this tournament saw spinner’s spells were similar to a speed- breaker, pulling the run-rate down by 2.00 pts.viz, if the run-rate was 5.00(when a spinner comes in to bowl) than it would slow down and fall to 3.50…then it would rise again when pacers come back.
One hopes for South Africa’s sake this move should not be costly, otherwise once again, the cliché word ‘choker” would be hang around their neck.
Bad decision to pick extra bowler when condition is suited for them…needed a specialist batsman to stick around, and R Peterson (good job considering his skills)did his best…but not his forte.
England have been leaking lot or runs in last phase(see above table). On the other hand, their bowlers have leaked too many in the death overs. Pace conceded 7.7 & spinners 10+. These stats are based on 2 games which went beyond 40th over.
Semi-finals : Ind v/s S L : Short tournament has its own weakness. Thanks to the top order scoring and sticking around, the Indian middle-order is yet to get a proper run/hit in the middle. So far Indian bowlers have bowled the best in the death overs (see above tables) especially their spinners.
Finals: Yet, the team that can bat(tle)the condition and survive the initial hiccup and post 250+ should win. Interestingly both teams love to chase!.
